Ready to Sew Instructions, Tips & Tutorial Videos

Sewing Instructions:
If you are new to sewing bummies, I strongly recommend reading through all the instructions and even watching the attached tutorial before starting.

You have received 5 pattern pieces:

• 1 front
• 1 back
• 1 waistband
• 2 leg cuffs
All pattern pieces include at minimum 1/4”seam allowance. Please note, you may notice some cut edges may not be as clean as others and that is ok. If you are using a serger, they will be cut off and if you are using a sewing machine, you wont see the cut edges once you've sewn your masterpiece!

Of course as you get going, you may find an easier for you way to do things! This is a base start with the instructions. Every trade has a shortcut and a way that we find works better for us!

  1. Line up the inseam and side seams of the front and back pieces, right sides (print) together. Pin or clip together.
  2. Sew or serge the inseam and side seams.
  3. Fold both the waistband and the leg cuffs in half lengthwise, right sides (print) together. Sew or serge the ends together
  4. Turn the leg cuffs right side out. Fold wrong sides together, matching the raw edges.
  5. Leaving the front and back piece inside out, you'll place one leg cuff inside a leg hole. The right sides of fabric will be touching. The raw edges should all be lined up. Next you'll “Quarter” the leg cuff by clipping or pinning it to the body: Start with a clip on each the two seams. Add two more clips on each the front and back, evenly across the fabric. Don't worry, The leg cuff should be slightly smaller than the leg opening. *Pro tip: I recommend lining up the seam on your leg cuff with either the inseam or the outer seam of the body, so that it’s consistent and clean looking.
  6. Sew or serge the leg cuff to the leg hole, stretching as you go so that all three pieces of fabric lay fat and line up along the raw edge. Repeat with second leg cuff.
  7. Fold your waistband in half and snip a small notch in the fold of the waistband to mark the center.
  8.  Just like you did with the leg cuffs, turn the waistband right side out and fold the wrong sides together, matching the raw edges.
  9. Fold your bummies in half (so the side seams line up) to find the center of the front and back pieces. Snip a small notch at the center point. This will help you place your waistband.
  10. Just like you did with the leg cuffs, place the waistband inside the shorts, lining up the raw edges. Right sides (print) of fabric will be touching. Place your seam on the notch on the back center. Match the notches in the waistband to the notch in the front center. Quarter the waistband, by clipping or pinning it in four places, evenly across the extra fabric. Your waistband should be slightly smaller than the waistline of the bummies.
  11. Sew or serge the waistband to the waistline, stretching as you go so all
three pieces of fabric lay fat and line up along the raw edge.
  12. Turn right side out and bam, they are finished! Great Job!

IF you are a visual person, this video is a great tutorial. You don't really need the first 7 mins of the first video since you are getting your bummies pre-cut and ready to sew, so it should start at about 7ish minutes for you!
